While the fan was straight-forward to install, looks great, and worked well (until it didn't), there is a major flaw in that the remote receivers in these fans consistently fail. This is the small green box within the fan body that receives the input from the remote control. Check the reviews on the Hunter website and you will see dozens of the same story.Initially, my fan worked normally (although mine only gets minor use). A few months after installing, the light began to randomly dim/brighten/flicker. Then a few months later, it stopped working all together—no fan, no light. I finally got around to opening up the fan, to test the wiring/connections which checked out fine. I then removed the receiver and wired the fan directly and it worked, making it apparent that the receiver was bad.I contacted Hunter customer service, and they were responsive. After confirming the problem was the receiver, and providing my proof-of-purchase, they let me know that because this item was out of warranty (1 year for all parts outside of the motor), I would have to purchase a new receiver for $55, which is over 1/3 the price I paid for the entire fan.So now I am considering purchasing an aftermarket remote kit or ditching this fan all together. I have been happy with previous Hunter fans, so it is disappointing that they are knowingly selling defective products and and profiting when they go bad.The dimmable LED lights do not dim very well. Also when lights are turned up, they go out for several seconds before coming back on.This fan is attractive, not too big, low profile, and cheaply priced, which makes it unique in the marketplace and why I bought 2 of them for my small bedrooms. Unfortunately, even with professional installation, the light would randomly blink off and then turn back on after a second. This would happen entirely randomly in an unpredictable manner, but was extremely irritating. We didn't use the overhead light feature THAT often so I tried to ignore it, but every time I used the light it bugged the heck out of me.After putting it off for a few months I called Hunter, which has surprisingly awesome USA-based tech support. Of course that doesn't make it always great, but it's nice to know you weren't punted over to someone who is also supporting dishwashers and cell phones. They explained to me that this is a known issue, but resetting the dimming feature seems to fix it about 75% of the time.TO RESET THE DIMMING FEATURE, AND SOLVE THE FLICKERING ISSUE (PROBABLY):1. Turn the light on2. Hold the "0" button and press the light button twice quickly. The blue LED will flash a few times and your light should go to full brightness3. You can then turn dimming back on by repeating step 2. I kind of hate the dimming so I left it off to remove any variables.I have been sitting under the fan for the last hour and haven't seen it flicker again. So yeah, initially the fan was bugging me, but after this reset it seems great. If you like the clean contemporary style of this fan and the price, I'm not sure you can find something better.First let me say that having lots of experience installing $50-$100 Lowes or Home Depot brand ceiling fans, this Hunter fan's build quality stands above the others. The way it goes together requires more steps than the cheap models, but it's all very easy and well-explained in the install guide. I was not planning on using the included remote (left it in the packaging) because I had pre-installed a Z-wave fan controller and Z-wave dimmer in the wall, so I wired this fan up just like any normal fan.The first thing that hit me about this fan, compared to others I have installed, is that this fan is DEAD SILENT. I certainly never considered my other fans to be LOUD, but this one just makes no sound, which is cool. The only issue I ran into, which is pretty minor, is that the 2 "60W" LED bulbs included with the fan are cheap, crappy, and they aren't dimmable. So when using them, firstly, due to the fact that these are the "old style" LED light bulbs with the opaque plastic base, light only comes out the "top", so against the frosted white glass dome of the fan, you get two distinct hot spots of light; it's not very even. Secondly, the bulbs aren't dimmable, so they would flicker when used with a dimmer. It was easy enough to replace them with fully-glass, dimmable LED bulbs (and now it's perfect), but I feel like given the price of this fan kit, they could have included better bulbs - and in my case, maybe NOT included the wireless remote kit, so that people like me who aren't going to use it anyway aren't forced to pay for it.If this fan was $100 without the remote instead of $150 (with the remote), I'd probably buy a couple more of these and replace the other fans in my house right now.As the title says, Hunter Fans are excellent. Ease of assembly, etc. We have 5 of them. Golda’s Kitchen that was the third party seller sent us a previously returned fan (re-gifting if you will). Golda’s Kitchen is clearly not reputable. Parts were lumped together, not is the designated bags that Hunter Fans use for each of its assembly processes. Some of the parts were already assembled. In addition it was missing a screw from the final assembly process. The good thing, Hunter Fans uses common screws. I found one in my miscellaneous parts container of screws. If you are going to purchase a Hunter do so from anyone other than Golda’s Kitchen.Very good quality of product!
